Responsibilities

  • Review the outgoing handoff and assess schedule, batch and Pre-Weigh readiness, tank availability, staffing, equipment concerns, and quality holds.
  • Assign work across Compounding, Sanitation Tech, and Pre-Weigh; set clear expectations; reallocate labor; and approve or adjust breaks, overtime, vacation coverage, and assignments.
  • Walk the floor to verify execution, correct stalled or unproductive work, address GMP/5S concerns, and challenge explanations that do not match observed conditions.
  • Handle routine people issues and difficult conversations professionally; coach employees, document or escalate concerns, and take authorized action when warranted.
  • Check completion before shift end and provide a clear handoff covering batch and pump-out status, risks, staffing, equipment, ingredients, recurring issues, and actions taken.
  • Coordinate required Area Lead touchpoints and leave the next shift with staged work, clear priorities, and operating readiness.
  • Translate the weekly schedule into an executable shift plan using production priorities, tank and equipment availability, Pre-Weigh readiness, sanitation needs, and staffing.
  • Prioritize batches by line-impact risk; maintain awareness of the current batch, next batch, next shift, and selected needs across the next 24-36 hours.
  • Proactively move people, tanks, pump-outs, and sanitation priorities to protect schedule attainment and fill-line continuity.
  • Make timely decisions with available information, explain the rationale, and coordinate priority changes with Production and leadership.
  • Own shift-level Compounding downtime risks, including CIP availability, adjustments, transfers, and batch readiness; escalate issues that cannot be resolved within the shift.
  • Select tanks and set pump-out and cleaning priorities to support current and future production needs.
  • Complete beginning-, middle-, and end-of-shift tank audits; identify open tanks and ensure operator follow-up.
  • Use the LX03 report to review portable inventory, contents, expiration dates, and demand when deciding what to retain or clean.
  • Partner with Maintenance/MX on equipment issues and repair priorities; escalate unresolved risks early enough to protect the schedule.
  • Check Pre-Weigh near the start and middle of the shift, follow the 24-hour plan, and address ingredient, staging, or priority risks.
  • Coordinate with Production, Quality, and MX on priority changes, planned work, batch adjustments, holds, and required operator actions.
  • Stop work or production, hold a batch, or initiate rejection when safety, quality, or process conditions require it.
  • Ensure timely Right First Time corrective actions and follow up on batches exceeding expected cycle time.
  • Ensure accurate Compounding SAP transactions, bulk cycle counts, write-offs, and supporting documentation.

  • The Compounding Lead directs assigned-shift Processing operations and serves as the senior Processing representative during 2 nd and 3 rd shift. The role leads approximately 11 -18 Compounders, Sanitation Technicians, and Pre-Weigh personnel to execute the schedule safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
  • The Lead converts the production plan into shift execution by assigning labor and tanks; setting batch, pump-out, sanitation, and Pre-Weigh priorities; adjusting resources as conditions change; verifying floor conditions; removing barriers; and escalating unresolved risks after appropriate initial action.
  • Success requires strong technical judgment, decisive people leadership, and a 24- to 36-hour operating view that protects fill -line continuity and leaves the next shift better prepared.
