About the Role: The Scientist - Chemical & Physical Transformation contributes advanced technical expertise to support R&D projects, focusing on utilizing comprehensive knowledge to drive scientific innovation and problem-solving within the team. This role supports new product development and process improvement initiatives to ensure high standards of research quality and compliance. Accountabilities:
  • Assist in the design and execution of experiments to support new product development and process research, ensuring accurate data collection and documentation.
  • Support data analysis efforts, summarizing findings and contributing to reports for review by senior colleagues and project leaders.
  • Maintain research equipment and ensure that experiments are conducted safely and in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Document all research activities and findings accurately, adhering to company standards for record-keeping and data integrity.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss project progress, share insights, and collaborate on problem-solving.
  • Assist in preparing materials and data for presentations, supporting the communication of research outcomes within the team.
  • Support intellectual property development within the team by contributing to patents, publications and technical presentations.

  • Demonstrates and fosters T&L foundational elements (safety, integrity, respect) Skills / Core Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; may be working towards a professional qualification.
  • H ands on experience in organic chemical transformations for food ingredients (e.g. starch modification, sweetener development and evaluation, hydrocolloid characterization and modification, or natural fiber extraction and characterization).
  • Developing knowledge of methodologies, processes, practices, and common issues of product / process development within the food and beverage industry.
  • Able to convey straightforward technical and non-technical information to audiences that generally understand the subject matter. Communication is normally within the team and closely related teams.
  • Primarily focuses on providing support to the team.
  • Able to work under general supervision, with some guidance from a competent professional or manager needed from time to time. Preferred skills:
  • M.S. or Ph.D. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or Polymer Chemistry with significant experience in the food and beverage, pharma, flavor, nutraceutical, or chemical industry
  • S ubject matter expertise and hands on experience in commercialization of specialty food ingredients.
  • Hands on experience in physical processing of food ingredients including crystallization, filtration, complex chromatography , drying techniques, and granulation/agglomeration, structural characterization, emulsion s , and rheological characterization .
