About the Company

Canva's flagship Sydney campus is uniquely Canva - an extension of its Surry Hills neighbourhood. It's a thoughtfully designed space with plenty of room to collaborate, focus, and connect. The company offers a hybrid way of working, giving employees the flexibility to work remotely and come together on campus for meaningful in-person collaboration and connection.

About the Role

Mobile Platform owns how Canva runs on iOS and Android, and the portable libraries layer is one of the most technically interesting pieces of the mobile bet. Every product team at Canva builds on top of what this group ships. The strategic bet is a hybrid stack with React Native at its core, supported by a set of portable libraries that run across iOS, Android, and web from a single codebase. This role sits at the heart of the portable libraries work, impacting hundreds of millions of users who open Canva on a phone or tablet. This position combines deep mobile expertise with systems programming, shaping how products like Canva are built for the next decade.

Responsibilities

  • ● Define and build the libraries that run across iOS, Android, and web, shaping their interface, safety model, and ergonomics for consumers in every runtime.
  • ● Build production-grade libraries using Rust and C++ that are fast, safe, and reliable across every device Canva ships to.
  • ● Work alongside other Staff engineers shaping the mobile platform's technical direction.
  • ● Lead with code, staying hands-on in a role that is heavily hands-on.
  • ● Communicate effectively across the stack, ensuring that libraries built are consumable by frontend engineers who don't write Rust.
  • ● Engage in technical debate with peers, bringing strong opinions and being open to changing your mind with better evidence.
  • ● Operate as an influential individual contributor, setting the standard for others.

Requirements

  • ● Built production mobile software on both iOS and Android.
  • ● Understand the platforms deeply enough to know where they diverge, where they don't, and how to write libraries that feel native.
