About the Role

McElhanney is looking for an Intermediate Water Resources Engineer to join our growing team in Vancouver, Victoria or Nanaimo, BC. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional who is ready to take on greater technical responsibility, contribute to project delivery, and further develop their project management and client relationship skills. In this role, you will contribute to a wide range of hydrotechnical and civil infrastructure projects across British Columbia. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders, you will lead technical studies, engineering design, project coordination, and project delivery. This role is well suited to someone with a strong technical foundation, experience coordinating projects, and an interest in growing into a Project Manager role. You will also have opportunities to support and lead business development initiatives and help strengthen client relationships within the water resources sector.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to engineering assessments and designs for water distribution, sanitary collection, stormwater conveyance systems, river engineering, flood modeling, mapping and risk analysis, environmental hydraulics, aquatic habitat enhancement, and related water resources projects.
  • Prepare and review technical drawings, hydraulic analyses, calculations, design reports, specifications, and other project deliverables.
  • Coordinate project delivery activities, including scope development, scheduling, budgeting, resource planning, client communications, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in field investigations, site inspections, construction services, and regulatory approval processes to support successful project delivery.
  • Support and progressively lead project management responsibilities, including project administration, stakeholder engagement, and client coordination.
  • Contribute to business development activities through proposal preparation, client meetings, relationship building, and identifying opportunities for new work.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering, with a focus on water-related disciplines.
  • + years of relevant experience, preferably within a consulting engineering environment.
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.
  • Project management or coordination experience, including exposure to project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and client engagement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • What Can We Offer You
  • The salary range for this position is 95,000 - 140,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
