About the Role
Toast is looking for a Staff Software Engineer (Backend) to join our Partner Connect team in Bangalore, which owns how everything outside Toast connects to Toast. You will play a role in evolving our architecture to support ever more complex new features and best-in-class monitoring as we scale to orders of magnitude of our current size. Responsibilities
- ● Be a part of team working collaboratively with UX, PM, QA and other engineers building web applications using modern web technologies
- ● Design the systems that make app development automated, self-serve, and fast, including sandbox provisioning and a clean path to production
- ● Define best practices and help choose technologies to evolve our current tech stack while writing world-class applications
- ● Championing best practices such as quality integration and unit testing
- ● Provide design feedback and participate in code reviews to ensure implementations meet requirements
- ● Ensure that all work done by the team is delivered with quality and is appropriately monitored and supported in production
- ● Raise the technical bar through architecture, design review, and code review, and mentor engineers across levels as the team grows
- ● Use AI tools in your own workflow and help establish how the team uses them well, including how to critically evaluate what they produce
Requirements
- ● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
- ● 10+ years of experience building backend systems and APIs
- ● Proficient in Java, Kotlin or other object oriented languages
- ● Experience designing platform APIs that other teams depend on - platform thinking, not just feature delivery
- ● In-depth understanding of AWS, microservices, distributed systems, and enterprise messaging
- ● The ability to break down a problem, understand what the consuming team actually needs, and ship a clean solution
- ● Proficient with traditional databases. Comfort with document-based or columnar data stores a plus
- ● Prior experience with distributed systems, enterprise messaging systems or microservices
