Staff Software Engineer (Java, AWS) Lead the design and delivery of secure, scalable Java services supporting customer identity and compliance. Shape a high-impact, in-house platform while guiding engineers across Australia and India. Build with modern cloud, microservices, event-driven and AI-powered engineering practices. Do Work That Matters Technology at CommBank is helping build simpler, safer and more personalised banking experiences. This role sits within Customer Data Technologies and the Customer Lifecycle Management team, which supports Know Your Customer refresh processes across the bank. As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll help build an in-house solution that enables customers to complete their identity refresh digitally, through a branch or with support from back-office teams. You'll lead technical delivery across integration and backend engineering, helping modernise the platform while improving security, reliability and the customer experience. See yourself in our team You'll join a highly capable and collaborative team of backend, frontend and data engineers delivering strategic Customer Lifecycle Management capabilities. The team is moving from a vendor-led platform towards an in-house solution built around modern engineering practices and stronger integration with bank channels. Requirements

  • ● Strong hands-on Java software engineering and system design experience.
  • ● Demonstrated experience designing and operating microservices and REST APIs in production.
  • ● Practical AWS and Amazon EKS experience, including containerised workloads.
  • ● A strong understanding of DevSecOps, automated testing, code review and observable production systems.
  • ● Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools and practices.
  • ● Exposure to Kafka, event-driven architecture, NoSQL databases or financial services environments would be valuable.
