About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Accountant / Payroll Officer to strengthen our financial management, improve internal controls and support payroll accuracy across the organisation. This is a primarily office-based role requiring regular onsite presence and close collaboration with the CEO, Strategy & Governance Manager and wider administration team. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and compliance of our finance and payroll functions while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. This is a hands-on position with scope to make an immediate impact through improved reporting, stronger controls and streamlined processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Xero accounts : month-end, reconciliations, BAS, PAYG, superannuation.
  • Oversee payroll interface: check award/EBA compliance
  • Deliver monthly finance packs (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, debtor ageing).
  • Support Workforce One (W1) data integrity and reconciliations.
  • Establish and run internal audit checks across payroll, invoicing and compliance.
  • Collaborate with external accountants on specialist or project work.
  • Contribute to reporting for the CEO, Board and auditors.
  • Undertake day-to-day ad hoc accounting, payroll or compliance tasks within scope as required.

Requirements

  • Qualified Accountant (CA/CPA desirable) or equivalent experience.
  • Proven skills in Xero (essential).
  • Payroll and award/EBA knowledge (desirable in NFP or apprenticeship context).
  • Strong understanding of compliance, audit and financial controls.
  • Ability to learn and apply new systems (Workforce One exposure highly regarded).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across teams and with external stakeholders.
