About the Role

Shape the future of secure technology at QTC. Queensland Treasury Corporation (QTC) is the central financing authority for the Queensland Government, providing financial resources, funding and advisory services that support sustainable economic, financial and social outcomes for Queensland. We're seeking an experienced Principal, Security Architect to lead QTC's security architecture capability and help shape the secure design of our future technology landscape. Reporting to the Director, Architecture and Design, you'll be QTC's senior security architecture specialist, providing leadership in security architecture, secure solution design, architecture governance and technology assurance. You'll work across projects, operational teams and strategic initiatives to ensure security is embedded into technology decisions from concept through to implementation. This is a unique opportunity to influence enterprise-wide technology outcomes while contributing to major initiatives across cyber security, cloud, data, digital and AI platforms. As QTC's Security Architecture subject matter expert, you'll partner with Technology, Data and Information (TDI), project teams, vendors and business stakeholders to ensure secure-by-design principles are embedded throughout technology delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the development and evolution QTC's of security architecture frameworks, standards, patterns and design principles.
  • Providing security architecture leadership for major cyber security and technology transformation initiatives.
  • Leading security architecture for identity, access and trust-related capabilities, including workforce and privileged identity, authentication, authorisation, federation, single sign-on and Zero Trust initiatives.
  • Shaping and contributing to technology and cyber security strategy, including secure-by-design practices, roadmaps, and technology planning activities.
  • Acting as the lead reviewer and trusted advisor for security architecture, solution design and technology assurance activities across the project portfolio.
  • Developing and maintaining architectural artefacts that support security capabilities across the organisation.
  • Contribute to threat modelling and security assessments to identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Reviewing cloud, infrastructure and application architectures to ensure alignment with security standards and best practice.
  • Partnering with operational security, engineering and delivery teams to drive secure, scalable and resilient technology outcomes.
  • Monitoring emerging threats, technologies and industry developments to continuously improve QTC's security posture.

Requirements

  • You are a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise and a passion for secure technology design. You can translate complex security concepts into practical business solutions and confidently engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Extensive experience in cyber security, including security architecture across complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong knowledge of security architecture principles, frameworks and industry standards.
  • Deep experience designing secure solutions across Microsoft technologies, including Azure IaaS and PaaS, as well as SaaS environments.
  • Expertise in Expertise in Identity & Access Management (IAM), including workforce identity, privileged identity management, Microsoft Entra ID, Zero Trust architecture, encryption and modern access control models.
  • Experience assessing technology risks and influencing security outcomes across projects and operational environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide trusted advice to technical and business audiences.
  • A collaborative and pragmatic approach to problem-solving, balancing risk management with business outcomes.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience as a cyber security SME, including security architecture roles within complex technology environments.
  • Experience designing and implementing security solutions across modern cloud and infrastructure platforms.
  • Experience providing architecture leadership, design assurance and governance across projects and technology initiatives.
  • Experience leading or contributing to Identity & Access Management (IAM), Privileged Access Management (PAM) or identity transformation initiatives.
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, identity governance and privileged access management solutions.
  • Azure Architecture certifications (AZ-305).
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, TOGAF, SC-100, SABSA or equivalent.
  • Experience with ISO27001, NIST and the ACSC Essential Eight.
  • Experience within financial services, government or other regulated environments.
